Banda Sea

Some of the most unique and exciting diving adventures are sure to be found in Indonesia’s Banda Sea. This exciting outpost is located between the Raja Ampat islands to the north, and the Komodo National Park to the south. Distinct for its volcanic islands and sea mounts that rise from the depths to create superb wall diving, encompassed by boundless marine life.

Banda Sea liveaboard trips visit the historically significant island of Banda Neira. A center for the Dutch / Portuguese Spice Trade in the early 1600s, the island is now a virtually inaccessible outpost of Indonesia. The island’s waters give home to amazing macro subjects and rare mandarin fish demonstrating their lively mating rituals.

A jewel in the crown of the Banda Sea lies further south at Pulau Manuk where the surrounding sea is inhabited by hundreds of sea snakes. And diving at Nusa Laut is infamous for Hammerhead Sharks swimming alongside the healthy coral reef.

Damai I and Damai II liveaboards offer multiple dates departing out of Ambon to visit these pristine reefs and cruise in luxury on seas of indescribable beauty and biodiversity. We also combine dives in the Banda Sea within our Forgotten Islands, Alor and Raja Ampat itineraries.

If you are flying through Sorong, you may be interested in taking a few days extra to trek to the endemic Birds of Paradise on the island of Waigeo, one of the Four Kings.
